ROOKIE DRAFT COMPLETE, FREE AGENCY NEXT ON AGENDA
Final Cuts Due for Multiple Teams
The Rookie Draft started with the selection of running back Darren McFadden of the Oakland Raiders by the Southern California Sun and concluded with the drafting of the KRFL's "Mr. Irrelevant", wide receiver Brett Swain of the Green Bay Packers. In between there were 238 additional players chosen. The complete draft can be found here .
There are four teams that still owe me cuts and/or contracts. Those teams are: CAROLINA, ORELAND, SCHENECTADY, and SPOKANE. The deadline for this info has been extended to Tuesday, June 3rd at 9pm Eastern time. If I do not hear from the coaches by then with their cuts and contracts, fines will be assessed, as it will necessitate the delay of the free agent draft. There are additional details below.
The Free Agent draft is scheduled to start MONDAY, June 9th, at 9am. If I do not have all the cuts and contracts by the deadline date above, it will be delayed one week, to June 16th. There are additional details below.
Because of the untimely demise of our previous forum, the information on tenders and cuts posted there for the previous deadline date of April 30th has been lost. So I may not have complete TENDER information for all teams. Please download the latest league file (link above) and check your team over thoroughly. If you want to change any contracts, cut any additional players, or add or delete or change a tender, you have until the extended June 3rd, 9pm deadline to do so. Allowing all teams to make changes until the extended deadline is only fair, so as to prevent the late teams from having an unfair advantage over the teams that were on time with the cuts, contracts, and tenders. There are additional details below.
Warrington has been allocated an additional 30th round free agent pick ($300k), to immediately follow his own, to rectify an unfortunate error made during last year's free agent draft. In last year's draft, in the 30th round, Warrington selected Gabe Watson, DT, Arizona. Unfortunately, due to an error by the league that was not caught until yesterday, Gabe Watson was listed as eligible, but in fact was NOT eligible to be drafted, as he was already the property of the Bensalem Bobcats. This error was in no way an error on the part of Warrington, but was a league error, and although Warrington loses Watson (who actually spent all of last season on both the Bensalem and Warrington squads), he deserves to be compensated for losing a player he drafted in the 30th round last year.

CUTDOWN DATE IS EXTENDED TO TUESDAY, JUNE 3RD AT 9PM EASTERN
By the cutdown date, you must have cut down to no more than $70 million in 2008 salary. You must also be below $70 million in salary for any future year at that time. By this date you must also post your contracts for your 2007 rookies and your players who were drafted as free agents last year.
At the cutdown date, you must have no fewer than 22 players and no more the 50 players on your roster. If you have fewer than 22 players, a fine of $1m will be levied against your team for each player you are short. If you are over 50 players, you forfeit your team and the league cut down for you. For every player below 50 you are after the cutdown date, you may draft one player in the free agent draft until you get back to 50 players. See below for additional information on the contract due date.
You may cut any player under contract (VET) at no cost if they played in three games or less. Otherwise VETS will cost you one-half their remaining contract value. Free Agents (FA), 2007 Rookies (07 ROOKIE), and 2008 Rookies (08 ROOKIE) may be cut at no cost, as they are not under contract and you have no further salary obligation to them if you choose to release them. You may choose to sign them to a contract. If so, see the section below.
CONTRACTS DUE BY EXTENDED CUTDOWN DATE
For Players listed as FA's and 07 Rookies, you must decide upon a contract length and post it to the forum under the CONTRACTS thread.
The new spreadsheet available for download contains a formula that enables you to play with the contract lengths to see how it affects your totals. All you need enter is the years you wish to sign your player(s) for. The spreadsheet will automatically extrapolate the remaining years, and the contract cost for each future year.
Remember that contracts increase by $1 million for each year of the contract, if the player is signed for four years or fewer. If the player is signed for five or more years, the contract value increases by $1.5 million for each year of the contract.
Signing a player for one year signs them for 2008 only.
Signing a player for two years signs them for 2008 and 2009.
Signing a player for three years signs them for 2008, 2009, and 2010.
Etc.
2008 ROOKIES
For 2008 Rookies, you must only decide by the cutdown date whether you will keep them or cut them. You may cut them for free. If you choose to keep them, their salary counts against your cap. Next you will get an opportunity to cut them (at no cost) or sign them to a contract of one or more years.
TENDER ELIGIBLE PLAYERS
From the players on your spreadsheet denoted with a TE (for Tender Eligible), you may tender up to two (you may choose one or none). Announce those under the ANNOUNCE TENDERS HERE forum post. Thanks. You do NOT announce the amount of the tender at this time.
FREE AGENT DRAFT STARTS MONDAY, JUNE 9TH AT 9AM
Once the cutdown date passes, further cuts are NOT allowed until after week one of our 2008 season. This means that you cannot cut anyone during the free agent draft. If you are at 38 players after the cutdown date, you draft an additional 12 players and then your free agent drafting is completed. You cannot draft a 51st player and cut someone on your squad to get back to 50. Thus, you should make sure you cut the players you want to cut prior to the cutdown date. This puts them back into the free agent draft for others to acquire.
ANOTHER TRADING PERIOD BEFORE START OF SEASON
After the conclusion of the Free Agent draft, the next trading period opens. This trading period will close approximately one week prior to the start of the KRFL season, to allow the league to update the contract spreadsheet and the league file for week one of the 2008 KRFL season. Once week one is completed, the next trading period will open, and this trading period will remain open until it closes at the conclusion of week 10 games. At that point it will remain closed until sometime following the conclusion of the 2008 KRFL season.
